Portugal Becomes a Magnet for Gulf Capital! Saudi Business Delegation Returns for a Second Visit in Just Six Months
From Institutional Cooperation to Business Partnerships: Saudi Investors Take a Closer Look at Portugal
From June 18 to 25, Alwaleed Al Baltan, Chairman of the Saudi-Portuguese Business Council (SPBC), is leading a delegation on a return visit to Portugal, holding a series of high-level meetings and business inspections in Lisbon, Porto, and other parts of the country. The visit aims to strengthen bilateral economic ties and explore new investment and partnership opportunities.
During their stay in Lisbon, the delegation is scheduled to meet with the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Portugal–Saudi Arabia Parliamentary Friendship Group. These meetings are intended to deepen institutional dialogue and create favorable conditions for future business projects between the two countries.
The delegation will then travel to Porto, one of Portugal’s major industrial and innovation hubs, to gain first-hand insight into the country’s advanced manufacturing and technology ecosystem. Planned meetings include discussions with Produtech, Portugal’s production technology platform, and AIMMAP, the Association of Metallurgical, Metalworking and Related Industries. The group will also visit CATIM, one of Portugal’s leading technology and innovation centers, to learn more about the country’s capabilities in industrial technology and smart manufacturing.
In addition, SPBC representatives will meet with the Portuguese Business Association and the National Association of Young Entrepreneurs (ANJE), aiming to strengthen ties between the two countries’ business and innovation ecosystems and explore opportunities in technology, industrial upgrading, and entrepreneurship.
Saudi Capital Targets Key Portuguese Industries
Beyond institutional meetings, Al Baltan’s agenda includes direct discussions with several prominent Portuguese companies operating in sectors such as construction materials, infrastructure, hospitality and tourism, pharmaceuticals, natural stone, furniture manufacturing, and technology.
Companies expected to participate in these meetings include Revigrés, Grupo ACA, Grupo SANA, Tecnimede, LSI Stones, AM Furniture, and Adyta. Market observers note that these businesses represent some of Portugal’s most competitive industries internationally, highlighting Saudi investors’ growing interest beyond traditional real estate and tourism toward manufacturing, healthcare, and innovation-driven sectors.
Another notable aspect of the visit is a planned meeting focused on the fashion industry, organized in preparation for the upcoming Portugal Fashion Week. The initiative aims to facilitate the participation of Saudi designers and reflects a growing expansion of bilateral cooperation into creative industries and cultural exchange.
Portugal Emerges as a Strategic Destination for Gulf Investors
According to Al Baltan, Saudi Arabia seeks not only to encourage Saudi companies to invest in Portugal but also to attract Portuguese businesses to participate in the Kingdom’s economic transformation.
“Whether they are innovative startups or established companies, Portugal offers enormous business potential, and we intend to explore these opportunities more deeply,” he said.
Notably, a Saudi business delegation had already visited Lisbon and Porto in January, establishing contacts with Portuguese institutions and companies. This latest visit, coming just months later, demonstrates the growing momentum in bilateral relations and sends a strong signal of confidence in Portugal’s economic prospects.
Analysts believe that the return of a high-profile Saudi business delegation within such a short period underscores the confidence Gulf investors have in Portugal’s economy and industrial capabilities. It also highlights Portugal’s increasing attractiveness on the international investment map. As cooperation continues to expand across investment, technology, industry, and innovation, Portugal is expected to attract more capital and projects from Saudi Arabia and the wider Gulf region, providing a fresh boost to economic growth.
